You may wonder that what made The Artist so good. Maybe it was the plot, or the fact that it was a silent film, or the very talented dog actor, Uggie (too bad that he didn't get an Oscar nomination). The plot, which was about a love story between a falling star, silent movie actor George Valentin, and a rising star, young Peppy Miller who made a successful career in talkies, was very touching and I almost cried while watching it. But this movie would have been nothing if it weren't a silent film and in black and white. It was probably a huge risk to the director and the producers to make a movie like this so I must bow to them. Thank you :)
Lastly, I'd like to praise silent movies even more. The Artist is the first silent movie I've ever seen. Before seeing this movie I always secretly thought that silent films were boring and hard to follow but I was so wrong. Sure the ways of passing a message to the viewer are different and that also limits the the options when making a silent movie but that's not a bad thing at all. When there's no sound, the actors and actresses have to be extremely good in other ways, and the music, it has a very crucial role, too. After all, there are only few moments when the movie is absolutely silent.
So, everyone who has the same stereotypes I had about silent movies, should watch The Artist. It makes you appreciate movies in a totally new level, I promise.
